Hearts all over the world broke recently when George Clooney, perhaps the world’s most famous bachelor who vowed to never marry again after his 1993 divorce from actress Talia Balsam, tied the knot with Lebanese-British human rights attorney, Amal Alamuddin. It comes as little surprise that Clooney would decide on getting married in Italy – he has long resided in the Como region of Italy and met his new bride in Italy – the country holds a near and dear place in his heart for many reason. But the details were not widely known prior to the wedding having taken place in the end of September.
The happy couple arrived in Venice on September 26, 2014 via taxiboat, while their VIP nuptials were buzzed about in the international press. The media frenzy surrounding the happy event captured an enviable celebrity guest list, including numerous A-listers, such as Matt Damon, U2’s Bono, Anna Wintour, Bill Murray, Emily Blunt, and Cindy Crawford.
The couple got married on September 27th in a private ceremony in Venice, which came as something of a surprise because they were not officially slated to marry until the Monday after. The Clooneys (Alamuddin legally took the groom’s name after the wedding) would, like all couples in Italy, were required to have a civil ceremony at the town hall in order to make the marriage legal, which took place September 29th at Stucchi Hall of the Palazzo Ca Farsetti.
The fresco-adorned Aman Resort hotel on Venice’s Grand Canal was the scene for the unofficial wedding, celebrated with more than 100 guests at with 136 guests at the exclusive seven-star hotel in the 450-year-old Palazzo Papadopoli.
Alamuddin and Clooney – one of the world’s most glamorous couples – can still scarcely outshine the gorgeous Venice surroundings.
